Counselor Amanda is here today to discuss some common (and maybe not so common questions) that she hears campers and students ask about mental health in her line of work. Amanda has a bachelors in psychology and works in hospital mental health. In the following video we’d like to share some general explainations of how our brains work, tips for stressful situations, and some great resources you should know when you have other questions about anxiety, depression, and other mental health topics.

We broke the video in two because we got into a pretty good discussion (and cause Andi’s laptop battery about died halfway through), below are the questions outlined in each video:

Video 1:

  • What’s the difference between depression and anxiety. Are they normal?
  • Difference between “normal” levels of sad/anxious and when you might need help
  • How do I tell my parents I want to get help? How do I express my feelings so my parents can understand? What if they won’t listen to me?
  • What do I do if I’m worried about a friend?

Video 2:

  • Why do I feel the urge to poop when I feel anxious?
  • What are positive outlets for my emotions?
  • How do I stop negative self-talk?

Please see the links below the video for some great mental heath resources!
